Our Story

How can I contribute to the world, experience the refreshingly unfamiliar tastes,
sights and sounds of other cultures while embracing the spirit of entrepreneurship?

Island-art.org was born from this desire.

I am a maker and have connected my heart to village artisans and their unique handcrafted skills. I delight in the idea that at our best we are all citizens of the world!

Artisans and craftsmen struggle to compete with the mega-malls and homogeneous super stores. In contrast, these amazing cottage industry handicrafts are passed on from mother to daughter and father to son. Supporting the unique skill sets of these artisans can provide them with a sustainable livelihood through fair trade products encouraging the preservation of Balinese culture and artistic heritage.

Here’s what I do… I co-create handcrafted treasures with artisans by going into remote villages, observing their craft, and creating designs that are suitable for the Western market. With the spirit of fair-trade practices, I pay artisans a competitive rate and often more than they request. All artisans receive a 50% advance when an order is placed. My local Balinese helpers collect the products from these families.

Our fair-trade handcrafted products range from eco-friendly tote bags, handmade baskets, and carved tabletop items to handcrafted beaded jewelry. In some cases, the unique skills found in five different villages help complete a single product. Out of this tedious process, a very new product is born.

I love one-of-a-kind things and do nothing in “mass” production. My products are all “limited edition” being crafted in homes with no two products exactly alike. Stores, like yours, that carry Island-Art products help improve the opportunities for these talented artists.

Our products are sold to real people, so we want to know you and become friends. Island- Art has an office in Bali, Indonesia, and storage in Georgia, USA.

Currently, we have 3 wholesale products and one-of-a-kind unique artwork. We also love resourcing… and help companies develop or find products in Asia.

Thank you for carrying our products and being a part of the vision to preserve artisan-made handcrafted products.

Warmly,
